The Descent (2005) Review:
One of the greatest masterpieces in modern horror! Neil Marshall does a master job at creating a very claustrophobic atmosphere, making this movie extremely tense and oppressive. “The Descent” is violent and graphic, with a lot of jumpy moments as well as many brilliant creepy cult scenes (e.g. the bloodbath scene). The really good acting of both the women and the monsters really convince and the distress of the main characters is really communicative.
I was a bit sceptic at first by the “caving” theme, but after 30 min I was totally immersed into the action and craving for more. And for the next hour, the film keeps delivering some great action and brilliant horror.
The Descent is the masterpiece that propelled Neil Marshall from the rank of significant horror director to horror genius! Amongst my three favourite horror films.
